McCain’s Bomb Squad To Light The Fuse at Famoso Drag Fest This Weekend….

In the wake of “Nitro Kitty” Mendy Fry posting her first 5-second elapsed times in a Nitro Funny Car last weekend in Sacramento, comes news that she will light the fuse in McCain’s Bomb Squad at “Drag Fest” in Famoso this weekend….

Mendy and McCain’s ’73 Duster are slated for two qualifying passes on Saturday, in preparation for an 8-car eliminator to compete on Sunday.

According to a report on the Nitronic Research blog, ” there is also a complement of Nitro Funny Cars that are slated to appear at this Rod & Kulture Magazine-sanctioned drag race. Among the rumored and proposed Famoso Raceway-bound entries: Jack Wright’s Joker Challenger, the Future Flash Dodge Charger, the Beach City Chevrolet Corvette, the Fighting Irish machine, the Crazy Horse Mustang, Kris Krabil in bike magnate Gary Turner’s Pedaler, and the Burnin’ Money Camaro.”

Also pounding the pavement this weekend are AA/Fuel Dragsters — including the legendary entries of High Speed Motorsports and Champion Speed Shop — as well as bountiful helping of AA/Fuel Altereds, a jet car, and other examples of badass machinery.

Mendy Fry #1 Qualifier at Funny Car Fever… By A Whisker!

After the clutch dust settled from this morning’s final qualifying at Sacramento Raceway’s Funny Car Fever, the leader board showed McCain’s Bomb Squad in the top position. But it was close: After posting a 6.003 elapsed time coupled with a top-end speed of 235 mph, we claimed the #1 spot over 2nd-best Kris Krabill in Gary Turner’s Pedaler by a whisker-thin 5/1000ths of second! (Last nite, Krabill recorded a 6.008, backed with a stellar top end charge of 242 mph.)

After Jack Beckman’s unfortunate crash last night, there are 14 entries left in the 16-car Nitro Funny Car class, which means that once eliminations begin this afternoon both myself and Krabill will get uncontested “bye” runs into the 2nd round.
